Lighting of the Peace Candle

One: A voice cries out: “In the wilderness prepare ye a way for the Lord.”

All: Every valley shall be lifted up, and every mountain and hill be made low;

One: the uneven ground shall become level,

All: and the rough places a plain.

One: Arise and ascend! Let us go to the highest and most visible places and let us proclaim good tidings of peace:

All: Christ is coming!

One: Do not be afraid, lift up your voices so that all may hear and find peace!

All: Christ is coming!

One: Here is our Peace! Although as sheep, we have often gone astray. God has gathered us with arms of compassion. We are protected in God’s bosom and led to quiet waters. Let us light this candle as we proclaim peace to all.

Many: We have been gathered; let us share our song of peace with one another.

One: Today we light the second candle on our Advent wreath, the candle of Peace. We celebrate and remember that our God offers each and all of us a peace that passes all understanding, a peace that shines most fully in the One who is coming into the world once more.

Prayer Joys and Concerns

Silent Prayer

Pastoral Prayer

The Lord’s Prayer:

Our Father who art in heaven, hollowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory for ever and ever. Amen.

*Response

Silently now, on bended knee,

Ready I wait Your will to see;

Open my heart, illumine me,

Spirit divine.

Loving God, you are trustworthy and kind to all who seek you. Thank you for comforting us when we are afraid about what the future may bring. Send us patience through your Spirit so that we will cheerfully bear with one another as a community of faith. Help us to grow in wisdom as we wait for your purposes to be fulfilled in the world. *Commission and Blessing

One: The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who lived in deepest night are lit up with a brilliant sight.

All: Unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given.

One: The spread of his influence and of his peace will never end. Therefore, go out into the world with great joy, and the grace of Bethlehem’s matchless Child, the love of the God who never ceases to amaze, and the fellowship of the Spirit who never wearies, will be with you this holy night and evermore.

All: Thanks be to God!

*Benediction
