Since 1930, when the Boy Scouts of America created Cub Scouting, younger boys from the first grade through fifth grade (or 7, 8, 9, and 10 year of age) have enjoyed and experienced all aspects of scouting. Cub Scouting is a year-round home-sponsored program chartered by local organizations such as Our First Baptist Church of Ogdensburg, requiring interaction between boys, their parents, adult leaders, and their friends, for the purpose of:
- Building character and fostering spiritual growth.
- Encouraging healthy habits and manners for good citizenship.
- Developing fair sportsmanship and pride in strength of mind and body.
- Acquiring and improving family accord and understanding.
- Emphasizing the value of getting along and of mutual respect.
- Imparting a sense of personal achievement with new interests and skills.
- Wanting to and learning how to be helpful and to do one's best.
- Preparing in all ways to become Boy Scouts.
